Emergency-stop switches, also called e-stop switches or cable pullcord switches, are devices that provide a positive shut-off of a belt conveyor in an emergency and sound an alarm. An endangered worker, or a worker who observes a problem, activates the switch by pulling-on or hand-striking the e-switch safety cable which, ideally, runs the length of both sides of the conveyor and extends around all accessible areas of the head and tail pulleys. Pulling-on or hand-striking the cable pullcord switch activates two circuit controls – one which shuts down the conveyor, the other which sounds an alarm.
